According to Buddha

We need to change our way of thinking and seeing things. We need to realize that the Earth is not just our environment. The Earth is not something outside of us. Breathing with mindfulness and contemplating your body, you realize that you are the Earth. You realize that your consciousness is also the consciousness of the Earth. Look around you–what you see is not your environment, it is you.

Edmonton Waste Management Centre, Edmonton, Alberta ~ December 2016

  1. No no no, we cannot live like this, maybe we can do it. Brilliant photos though.

    • Bob i was amazed at the amount…and truck loads…some of the images are just from one morning…but then as i heard more and learn a little more along the way i was amazed at what is done…and apparently Edmonton is a world leader in waste management…although this wasn’t new to me…actually seeing it was eye opening…i think seeing what i discard and delete matters even more…i’m sure i could do better 😀 thanks kindly for your comment! smiles hedy
i’m attaching this just as a side note…http://globalnews.ca/news/1992521/edmonton-off-limits-turning-your-waste-into-soil/

  2. Hmmm… you just gave me a helluva an idea. 🙂

  3. Great photos. I like how among the massiveness of it, you chose to show a bit of a printed page. Who knew waste could be so colorful? Nice set Hedy. Stay warm.

  4. It is amazing that we need so much stuff. I see garages, for cars, that are filled to the brim with who knows what. Yes everyone needs more???, the older I get the less I want and need. Things just tie you down. Have a wonderful day Hedy. May peace always be with you.

  5. i’m confident in earth’s healing
    over the next several
    million years 🙂

    • you made me
      smile
      and then again
i smiled about the millions…but it was a smirk smile
      cause it is amazing…

smiles back to you David! 😀

  6. GlD to see the staff in masks and safety gear. Did you have to wear it too? I do like the words among the blue plastic and the movement on the conveyor belts.

    • yes the masks, noise, air quality all part of keeping the workers safe…we were behind glass and in a bus…so no we were free of equipment…the amount of garbage moving through was amazing…and made me wonder about other cities that are larger than Edmonton…and what they ‘do’ or ‘not do’…every body ought to go and see where they dump their garbage…and yes the little words always giving us a little clue ^_^ thank you Bunty for your comments…have a happy day ~ smiles hedy

  7. Apart from your wonderful photos what I love most about this set is to see recycling actually happening. In so much of the world it just doesn’t.
And to read the Buddha’s words: what you see is not your environment, it is you. I’ve had several occasions of the lived experience of knowing this. It’s good to be reminded.
