According to Buddha

If you want to be loved, start loving others who need your love. If you want others to sympathize with you, start showing sympathy to those around you. If you want to be respected, you must learn to be respectful to everyone, both young and old. Whatever you want others to be, first be that yourself; then you will find others responding in like manner to you.

i listen to my words but
they fall far below
i let my music take me where
my heart wants to go
i swam upon the devil’s lake
but never, never never never
i’ll never make the same mistake
no, never, never, never

Fort of São Francisco do QueijoPorto, Portugal ~ April 2018

  1. I could tell this was not E-town. Nice images. They remind me of the Spanish fort in St Augustine, FL. Have a great week. Cheers

    • oh no sadly etown is ugly…of course we have our river’s edge…I prefer Porto any day Chris…there is no aesthetic and forward planning here in etown…certainly nothing to look as a city…well we have a monster hockey arena now…etown looks good in renderings of proposed plans…it’s not Boston either 🤓😞 have a happy day…you done teaching for the term now? smiles hedy ☺️☀️

      • I have a few weeks off and then will work a couple days a week teaching summer classes. Spending time with my wife and friends working on the house, hiking, cycling. Perhaps the monster arena will result in an etown renaissance. Smiles

  2. Love this whole piece, Buddha, photos and song. I have always to brought up to “Do onto others as you would have others do onto you”. It has served me well. I really haven’t listened to Cat Stevens forever, it is wonderful to listen to his music again, I have always loved this folk style of music. I am listening to a list of his songs now. Thanks for sharing these songs it has opened my mind to other music I would not have discovered and ones I haven’t listened to for many years. Love the coloring of these depictions os Portugal, it really shows a wonderful mood, nostalgic and warm although also contemplative to me. Have a wonderful week my friend.

    • dear Terry thank you…I’ve always loved Cat Stevens since high school…and yes I do love Portugal…it’s been a full week so far ☺️🤓💫 happy day to you ☀️

  3. So true, Hedy.

  4. The path to knowledge lies before us. With eyes wild open, clarity is revealed and we began to take the many steps necessary.
Incredible photos tell a big story. Great post Hedy

    • somehow it seems many have their eyes wide shut…but I believe things will turn around as people take their own steps…I remind myself…everyone is where they ought to be…albeit I have some doubting going on in my hedy head…and now along with a summer cold 🤧 it’s a heat wave here…smiles and thank you dear Eddie ☀️🤗💫

  5. That first picture is amazing, and I want it.

  6. A wonderful series once again, Hedy.

  7. I love the sepia tone, and that first shot especially is a beauty.
    Alison

    • lots to play with in LR for me…I’m enjoying composing my images Alison…thank you for saying 🤓☺️💫 smiles hedy

  8. I love the last one.

    • thank you for saying Gavin…I appreciate your eye and always appreciate the culling process…I’m entering some Portugal images to a Canadian Photo magazine so your comments help…thank YOU! smiles across the pond ~ hedy ☺️💫☀️

  9. Profound in words and images Hedy. Your posts are always a marvel.

  10. Great advice, no matter who it came from… 😉 And it works so well to show it with these moody photographs of the group of men…the voyeurs too. How many of them have figured out on their own that there’s this simple way to find interactions with others going more smoothly? I wonder.

  11. And the Cat Stevens was a treat.

  12. I love this rough mood in that images. Wow, excellent work again, Hedy. Such a great performance on such a high level… post for post… ..so impressing

  13. Hey Hedy .. wow that is some fort, great photos girl! And that is such a super quote …

  14. You will probably turn me into a Buddhist one day. 😉
(Trip to Asia is having some influence too…)
Love the men playing cards down below.
(Were those “traditional cards as we know them? The Spaniards have very bizzare playing cards. Wonder about the Portuguese?)
    And Devil’s Lake? Hmmm. Frightening.

    • I’m sloppy 🤓 never a full “ist” I will just be me ☺️💫 it’s lovely to see men together playing cards outside…ya numbers hey 😳☺️

      • Never an “ist”? Very good. I hadn’t thought of that but it is true that most “isms” end up turning into ideologies. And as much as I love ideas, I loathe ideologies… Thank you for the concept. Duly noted.
        Cheers
