According to Buddha

Aging has its own beauty. It is a beautiful stage for doing inner work. You have a chance to not be so dependent on social approval. You can be a little more eccentric. You can be more alone. And you can examine loneliness and boredom instead of being afraid of them. There is such an art and a possibility of aging.

i’m going way past tomorrow
way past yesterday

i’m gonna go so far
’til my sense is lose
all trace of space and time
going so far ahead
’til there’s nothing left behind

back-allys ~ Etown ~ May 2020

  1. These trash cans have been around and have character. I like how each is a bit different in how they are stores or one person folds all of the cardboard. We show our personalities even in how we keep our trash. Have a great day, Hedy.

    • I did an IG shot and humans approved so I went searching more closely through some of the back lanes…actually pretty tidy…many new garages with suites in them I see…and yes what’s behind the fence is a telling story of us as humans right Chris ☺️🤓new fridge arriving today kinda exciting…hoping you’re having a happy one too ~ hugs Hedy ☺️🤗

      • Woohoo…A new fridge. Somehow, I’ve managed to buy only one of those in my adult life. Of course, now that I’ve said that, it will die before lunch time. lol

        • this self isolation has meant, replacing, organizing, sorting, rearranging…recycling and deleting…it’s been costly🥴☺️

  2. Lovely photos and wise thought 🙂 have a great day, PedroL

    • PedroL thanks for stopping by and commenting I appreciate it…yes I enjoy Ram Dass these days…hoping you’re having a creative day as well…I’ll stop by and take a closer look ~ smiles Hedy ☺️🤓☀️

  3. I never would have believed that when I was younger but its very true. I feel I don’t have to pretend so much.

    • Being and feeling authentic is a lovely feeling…honesty is so refreshing Mike…have a joyful day ~ smiles and hugs Hedy ☺️🤗☀️

  4. True about aging and I enjoy your images, however there’s an implicit suggestion that we’re aging garbage cans that disturbs me.

    • Well yes Joan indeed…implicit/explicit…I don’t know🤔…I see beauty/banality in these garbage cans…those dents and bangs and cracks and marks maybe the scars of living a life…I do think about human longevity and grace…about death and dying and what’s left behind…aging is not for the faint of heart someone told me that once…🤓☺️Compose a joyful day Joan and thank you kindly for your comments ~ appreciated ~ Hedy ☺️💫

  5. I like the series. Beautiful and disturbing at the same time.

    • hello Alex 🤔 I like to think opposing senses of beauty and being disturb…are well a good thing…but I don’t know…I took a visual storytelling course in the fall and the instructor suggested that I photograph “ugly”…so I’m playing with this a bit ~ smiles and hugs hedy ☺️🙃🙂🤗 hoping you’re well

  6. Lovely wisdom and sharing Hedy 🙏
I feel like one of old battered shiny ones smiling along with my 2 companions. 😉

  7. The quote on aging is, of course, true…because when you get old there’s nothing left. Social approval? You’re invisible!

    • in my mind’s eye George I’ve got 20 years left to do what I have planned out…and I’ve got lots to do…of course I may be wrong or right who knows…but I’m trying to stay in the now…i’m not invisible…you’re not either…I read your writing…keep on going…you’ve got works to publish…smiles and sending you joy ~ hedy ☺️💫

      • But according to Buddha, what is worth doing? What is worth accomplishing?

        • good morning George as you know I’m a sloppy buddhist…so I don’t know…but from what I dabble in I might consider the Turning of the Dharma Wheel…the 6th spoke on that wheel is “Right Effort. A worthwhile life means doing our best at all times and having good will toward others. This also means not wasting effort on things that harm ourselves and others.”…right effort/wrong effort…I don’t know but ending suffering is always worth a try…sending kindness…and writing vibes…I will read more…I see you posted ~ smiles and joy your way ~ hedy ☺️🤓🙃🙂

  8. beautiful bins.

    • not many metal ones here…mostly plastic…and with all the rebuilds the garbage seems hidden…happiness your way Gavin from rainy etown ☔️ 🤗🙃🙂

  9. great finds in the backalleys, Hedy, each telling a story!!

    • Right Alexandra I actually surprised how tidy the back lanes are…was looking for weird items but perhaps with the lockdown humans are cleaning and recycling 😃🤓 so that’s nice…have a joyful day ~ smiles Hedy ☺️🌷

  10. There goes Hedy, wandering around Etown, making aging look good, and eccentric, too. 🙂

  11. Beautiful series.
I like seeing photos of things people wouldn’t normally photograph.

  12. Oh that is a fabulous quote .. so true! You sure do have fun with that camera don’t you! Btw, nothing to do with aging right 😀

  13. Love it. Thank you.
