According to Buddha

Along with the peach and the citrus, pomegranates are one of the “Three Blessed Fruits” of Buddhist tradition. The story goes that there was a powerful female demon (known as Hariti in India and Kishimo-jin or Karitei-mo in Japan) who kidnapped young children and feasted on them. The Buddha, however, managed to placate her ferocious desire by offering her pomegranates. Soothed by the Buddha’s compassion, she acquired a gentler nature and became the patron goddess of children. She is sometimes depicted holding a pomegranate in one hand a suckling a baby with the other.

Pomegranate (Punica granatum) ~ in my kitchen a day or so ago ~ Etown ~ November 2020

  1. I’ve eaten hardly a one of them in my life. I should rectify that!

    • Well Neil they are one of my favourites…they’re messy and fun…they only come here once a year…so they are special. ☺️💫 sending joy ~ hedy

  2. A marvelous story filling the mind with wonder of a fruit
we know must be ‘special’ simply by its name.
    Love your photography!
I am thankful that I know you Hedy

    • Right Eddie I didn’t know it so it was curious to me…and i appreciate your kind words Eddie and I’m so happy to know you and cross paths…have a joyful day smiles and hugs hedy ☺️🙂🤗💫

  3. You turn processing pomegranates into art, Hedy. Nice

  4. Beautiful, strong, black and white photographs, Hedy. And it’s not what one would tend to do with a fruit so deeply colored. But it works so well! 🙂

    • Thanks kindly Lynn some one told me photographing fruits and flowers in b/w shows the soul of them 🤓☺️ I don’t know but I enjoyed playing with the processing ☺️ hoping you’re doing well ~ hugs from sunny etown hedy 🤗🙏

      • That’s interesting about seeing the soul of fruits & veggies in B&W. Nice! We’re doing OK…having a quiet but plentiful T’day dinner in a little while. 🙂 I actually found a few flowers still blooming along a roadside a while ago. 🙂

  5. Beautiful work. There are a couple i’d hang on our walls.

  6. Shot straight from above.. Kind of abstraction and a step towards essence; same for B&W. Fine set! Does eating them calm you down?.. 🙂 Enjoy what gets to you!

  7. special photography and gifts of the tiny fruits of the pomegranate. lovely Hedy! ❤️

  8. I like pomegranates. The fruit and the photos.

  9. Love this. And thank you for such a wonderful text!

    • Thank you kindly Laura…words of a Buddha and words of a song…I just found Pomegranates by Porya Hatami…I really like his connections to nature…thank you for stopping by ~ compose a beautiful day ~ smiles hedy ☺️💫

  10. To paraphrase you: there are no pomegranates outside you. Just the idea you form of them… 🙏🏻
