According to Buddha

People cleave to their worldly possessions and selfish passions so blindly as to sacrifice their own lives for them. They are like a child who tries to eat a little honey smeared on the edge of a knife. The amount is by no means sufficient to appease their appetite, but they run the risk of wounding the tongue.

honey honey, how you thrill me, a-ha, honey honey
honey honey, nearly kill me, a-ha, honey honey
i’d heard about you before
i wanted to know some more

According to Buddha.

It is almost impossible to practice loving-kindness towards all living beings without addressing, in a meaningful way, the innumerable problems arising in our own lives. It is a contradiction, you see. It does not work. If our heart is tormented because we are not able to accept things the way they are, then it is impossible to open our heart. It is impossible to let go of all of our defenses and embrace others. Therefore we have to constantly practice and deepen our awareness. We have to remind ourselves to accept things as they are…even reciting slogans, phrases like “I shall accept the way things are.”

when i was a little girl
and the devil would call my name
and i’d say, “who do, who

oh, my mama loves me, she loves me

she rocks me like the rock of ages

Surrender means surrendering who you are not, so that who you really are may emerge.
You are not what you think, you are not what you believe, you are not what you like or dislike.
Those are the adopted filters which speak through you.

According to Buddha

On the mundane level, the clear comprehension of impermanence, suffering and non-self will bring us a saner outlook on life. It will free us from unrealistic expectations, bestow a courageous acceptance of suffering and failure and protect us against the lure of deluded assumptions and beliefs. In our quest for the supra-mundane comprehension of the three characteristics will be indispensable.
