According to Buddha

Suffering is a good teacher to those who are quick and willing to learn from it. But it becomes a tyrant to those who resist and resent.

According to Buddha

Be honest with yourself.
The world is not honest with you.
When you are honest with yourself
you find the road to inner peace.

According to Buddha

Truths are not truths to you unless you realize them within yourself. Without realization, they are just ideas. For perception, consciousness, lies not in vague ideas, but in the acquisition of Self-realization.

According to Buddha

Love gives without expecting anything in return. I never think of anyone in terms of what he can do for me. And I never profess love to someone because he has done something for me. If I didn’t actually feel love, I wouldn’t pretend to give it; and since I feel it, I give it. Love cannot be had for the asking; it comes only as a gift from the heart of another. Be certain of your feeling before you say to anyone, ‘I love you’. Once you give your love, it must be forever. Not because you want to be near that person, but because you want perfection for that soul. To wish for perfection for the loved one, and to feel pure joy in thinking of that soul, is divine love; and that is the love of true friendship.

According to Buddha

Although guilt is not seen as a very positive emotion, repentance is seen as very important factor to improve our ways of thinking and behaving. The positive/transforming aspect of guilt can be that we admit our mistakes, ponder over them and motivate ourselves to not repeat negative actions – repentance.

According to Buddha

No light is comparable to the light of wisdom. The light of wisdom awaits all those who learn and put into practice the teachings of taming the mind. It shines everywhere without discrimination, like the light of the Buddha’s Dhamma which never discriminates against anyone.

old man lyin’ by the side of the road
where the lorries rollin’ by
blue moon sinkin’ from the weight of the load
and the buildings scrape the sky
red lights flashin’ through the window in the rain
can you hear the sirens moan
cold wind rippin’ on the valley at dawn
and the morning paper flies
don’t let it bring you down
it’s only castle’s burning
find someone who’s turning
and you will come around
you will come around

These two people are hard to find in the world. Which two? The one who is first to do a kindness, and the one who is grateful and thankful for a kindness done.

TITLE: Man and Dog

2014

As an imagemaker I study how the world around me looks and sounds through ordinary harmony and fittingness. I work daily with my camera and with words to compose beautiful “thought things” (Arendt, 1978) as a way to form ideas and to inspire reflection and rumination; perhaps start a conversation.

My photographs are allegories for my understandings of human desire for settlement of spaces and places in which people and things fit together. I try to negotiate my subjectivities of looking and composing my “thought things” with (Scruton, 2009) ideas of why beauty matters, to see the remedy of beauty as an instrument of peace.
