According to Buddha

When somebody provokes your anger, the only reason you get angry is because you’re holding on to how you think something is supposed to be. You’re denying how it is. Then you see it’s the expectations of your own mind that are creating your own hell. When you get frustrated because something isn’t the way you thought it would be, examine the way you thought, not just the thing that frustrates you. You’ll see that a lot of your emotional suffering is created by your models of how you think the universe should be and your inability to allow it to be as it is.

but you tell me over and over and over again, my friend
ah, you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction

and marches alone can’t bring integration
when human respect is disintegratin’
this whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

According to Buddha

The shadow is the greatest teacher for how to come to the light.

well i know i had it all on the line
but don’t just seat with folded hands
and become blind
’cause even when there is no star in sight
you’ll always be my only guiding light

On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the world is full of beauty.

Today is such a day.

here she built a chapel
with her image on the wall –
and a place where she could rest
and a place where she could wash –
and listen to the wind blow.

I believe the purpose of all the major religious traditions is not to construct big temples on the outside, but to create temples of goodness and compassion inside, in our hearts.

your own personal jesus
someone to hear your prayers,
someone who cares
 your own personal jesus
someone to hear your prayers,
someone who’s there

According to Buddha

To stay with that shakiness—to stay with a broken heart, with a rumbling stomach, with the feelings of hopelessness and wanting to get revenge—that is the path of true awakening.  Sticking with that uncertainty, getting the knack of relaxing in the midst of chaos, learning not to panic—this is the spiritual path.  Getting the knack of catching ourselves, of gently and compassionately catching ourselves is the path of the warrior.  We catch ourselves one zillion times as once again, whether we like it or not, we harden into resentment, into a sense of relief, a sense of inspiration.

so let’s take the streets,
see what people need,
make some kids and keep ‘em safe,
hold on tight through every night,
these walls will see us both go.

Spend less, and have more, by doing away with luxurious habits. From your earnings put aside as much as possible, so that you can live partially on the interest from your savings, without having to dip into the capital.

tiny curtain’s open, and we heard the tiny clap of little hands
a tiny man would tell a little joke, and get a tiny laugh from all the folks
sitting, drifting around in bubbles, and thinking it was us that carried them
when we finally got it figured out, that we had truly missed the boat

Moods are often a result of environmental influences. Each one of us is affected in different ways by the world about us. But you should not allow yourself to indulge in moods over external conditions. Why should you take on the effects of your environment?

Many teachers will tell you to believe; then they put out your eyes of reason and instruct you to follow only their logic. But I want you to keep your eyes of reason open; in addition, I will open in you another eye, the eye of wisdom.

According to Buddha

Familiarity with Nature has bred contempt for her ultimate secrets; our relation with her is one of practical business. We tease her, so to speak, to discover the ways in which she may be forced to serve our purposes; we make use of her energies, whose Source yet remains unknown.
