According to Buddha
The gift of truth excels all other gifts.

we both hate the holidays
our parents act crazy
and the mall is insane
let’s skip it all this year
and have a non-traditional, non-denominational celebration
Christmas with you is the best
we’ll have no turkey or guests
sleeping late but before we get dressed
i want to give you a present
i want to give you a present

According to Buddha
Water condensed becomes ice, and so invisible Spirit can be frozen into form by my devotion’s frost. If only you could see the beautiful eyes of the Mother that I beheld last night. My heart is filled with joy eternal. The little cup of my heart cannot hold the joy and the love that I beheld in those eyes — looking at me, sometimes smiling.

ramblin’ rose, ramblin’ rose
why you ramble, no one knows
wild and wind-blown, that’s how you’ve grown
who can cling to a ramblin’ rose?

According to Buddha
Truths are not truths to you unless you realize them within yourself. Without realization, they are just ideas. For perception, consciousness, lies not in vague ideas, but in the acquisition of Self-realization.

follow, follow the sun
and which way the wind blows
when this day is done.
breathe, breathe in the air.
set your intentions.
dream with care.

According to Buddha
No light is comparable to the light of wisdom. The light of wisdom awaits all those who learn and put into practice the teachings of taming the mind. It shines everywhere without discrimination, like the light of the Buddha’s Dhamma which never discriminates against anyone.

old man lyin’ by the side of the road
where the lorries rollin’ by
blue moon sinkin’ from the weight of the load
and the buildings scrape the sky
red lights flashin’ through the window in the rain
can you hear the sirens moan
cold wind rippin’ on the valley at dawn
and the morning paper flies
don’t let it bring you down
it’s only castle’s burning
find someone who’s turning
and you will come around
you will come around

If for company you cannot find a wise and prudent friend who leads a good life, then, like a king who leaves behind a conquered kingdom, or like a lone elephant in the elephant forest, you should go your way alone.

Meditate.
Live purely. Be quiet.
Do your work with mastery.
Like the moon, come out
from behind the clouds!
Shine.

and we all shine on
like the moon and the stars and the sun

You must leave righteous ways behind, not to speak of unrighteous ways

another simple precept from Buddha is ‘do not use intoxicants‘.
pondering the subject at hand, Gregory Bateson said that everything is intoxicating, that it’s just a matter of the level….
as i listen to Bob Marley ‘red red wine’
oh red red red wine

To live a pure unselfish life, one must count nothing as one’s own in the midst of abundance.
another simple precept from Buddha is ‘do not steal’.
i gave a woman a dinner…
i woke up…in a very different place…
i took photographs of her…
i stole a glimpse…
…steal.

Animals have always been regarded in Buddhist thought as sentient beings, different in their intellectual ability than humans but no less capable of feeling suffering.
according to Buddha one simple precept is “Do not kill”.
…but i have…mosquitoes too…
